NCQA Issues Results of Latest Health Plan Rankings

November 6, 2018

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has issued the results of their Annual Health Plan Ratings for 2018-2019. Their rating system examines key statistics like patient satisfaction, preventive screening adherence results and patient treatment. The Annual Health Plan Rankings provide extraordinary insight into the overall effectiveness of a health plan as measured by quality based criteria.

The NCQA is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has worked to improve healthcare quality through the administration of evidence-based standards, measures, programs and accreditation since the early 1990s. The NCQA operates on a formula to measure, analyze and improve healthcare quality. Additionally, the committee strives to build consensus across the industry around quality standards and measures by working with policymakers, employers, providers, patients and health plans. They are considered by most as the “gold standard” in measuring quality and satisfaction in healthcare plan delivery. In addition to ranking health plans, they are the foremost expert organization on accrediting health plans, utilization management organizations, accountable care organizations and patient centered medical homes. They invented Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) which sets the standards around preventive care that most health plans and providers follow.
